Despite growing up in the suburbs, I consider myself a city girl. I went to college at Fordham University’s Manhattan campus and visit Philadelphia often. I’m a sucker for big buildings and bright lights — and so, I’ve always wanted to visit Las Vegas. I just returned from a long weekend and Vegas did not disappoint.

As artificial and tacky as parts might be, I was excited to see the Las Vegas Strip at night. Everything in the city seems new. As much as I love the bright light aesthetic, I equally appreciate history – both reasons why I love New York City and Philadelphia. For me, Las Vegas’ Fremont Street combines the perfect amount of Sin City glitz and old Vegas charm. My friends and I visited the famed street one afternoon. Casinos like the Golden Nugget and Four Queens transport you to a different time and place. There are many entertainment and dining options for tourists. During the day, visitors can zipline over the length of the street. Now known as the Fremont Street Experience, at night the canopy covering the street transforms into a dazzling light show (Viva Vision). Powered with LED lights and synced with a state-of-the-art sound system, viewing a truly unique show is as simple as looking up. Musicians perform concerts regularly, so check the schedule when planning your trip.

A long weekend was the perfect amount of time to spend in Las Vegas, though I wouldn’t mind trying my luck there again soon.
